Build campaign structure, optimize ACoS and bids
Amazon PPC Manager is a campaign architecture and advertising optimization skill on EasyClaw designed to help Amazon sellers build, manage, and scale high-converting sponsored ad campaigns. In Amazon’s competitive ecosystem, advertising is essential to drive search visibility, but inefficient campaigns can easily result in high Advertising Cost of Sale (ACoS) and drain your business margins.
This skill automates PPC campaign setup (structuring SP, SB, and SD campaigns using proven naming conventions), diagnoses high-ACoS ad groups, optimizes bidding strategies, and extracts high-converting keywords from search term reports.
The expected outcome is a structured, profitable PPC campaign setup: a clean 3-campaign launching blueprint, optimized bids that balance sales velocity with profitability, and negative keyword lists to eliminate wasted ad spend.
1. PPC health check and diagnosis. Provide your active campaign metrics (ad spend, attributed sales, clicks, impressions, and ACoS). The skill calculates your current performance and compares your ACoS to your product’s gross margin to determine campaign profitability.
2. Campaign structure generation. For a new product launch, specify your target keyword list. The skill designs a 3-campaign setup: Auto (automatic targeting for keyword discovery), Broad/Phrase (research campaign), and Exact (ranking campaign) with exact budgets and bid guidelines.
3. Keyword extraction and mining. Input a raw Seller Central search term report. The skill parses the data, extracts customer search terms meeting conversion thresholds (e.g., 2+ sales with ACoS below target), and organizes them into high-performing targets for exact campaigns.
4. Bid optimization calculations. Provide CPC, conversion rate, and target ACoS. The skill uses the formula: `Bid = AOV * Conversion Rate * Target ACoS` to calculate the mathematically optimal bid for each keyword, preventing overbidding on low-converting terms.
5. Negative keyword list compiling. The skill identifies search terms with high clicks and zero conversions (wasted spend) and compiles them into a structured negative exact/phrase list to apply in Seller Central, instantly stopping ad spend leakages.
- ACoS optimization engine: Diagnoses high ACoS and provides structured bid and keyword adjustments.
- 3-campaign launch blueprint: Creates the standard Auto-Research-Exact campaign architecture.
- Mathematical bid calculator: Calculates exact keyword bids based on conversion rate and target margin.
- Search term report miner: Extracts high-converting customer searches and flags non-performing terms for negation.
- Wasted spend detector: Compiles negative keyword lists to block irrelevant or non-converting searches.
- Portfolio-level budgeting advice: Allocates daily budgets across campaigns to maximize sales velocity while capping overall spend.
1. Setting up ads for a new product launch
A seller launching a "makeup organizer" has 15 primary keywords. They ask the skill for a launch structure. Amazon PPC Manager generates a 3-campaign blueprint with step-by-step setup instructions for Seller Central: Campaign 1 (Auto), Campaign 2 (Broad Match Research), Campaign 3 (Exact Match Ranking) with suggested daily budgets and bid ranges.
2. Reducing a campaign's ACoS from 65% to 30%
An active campaign is driving sales but losing money with a 65% ACoS. The seller shares the keyword metrics (clicks, conversions, CPC, sales). The skill identifies 4 keywords that are eating 50% of the budget with zero sales, recommends adding them as negative exacts, and calculates optimized bids for the profitable terms, lowering ACoS in 48 hours.
3. Mining high-converting terms from an Auto campaign
A seller has run an Auto campaign for 2 weeks. They input the search term report. The skill extracts 8 customer search terms that have generated at least 3 sales each with an ACoS under 25%. It recommends migrating these to an Exact Match manual campaign and adding them as negatives in the Auto campaign to prevent internal bid competition.
4. Optimizing bids after a conversion rate drop
Due to a negative review, a product's conversion rate drops from 12% to 7%. The current bid of $1.50 is now causing high ACoS. The skill recalculates the optimal bid based on the new 7% conversion rate, adjusting it to $0.85 to maintain profitability until the review is resolved.
5. Structuring Sponsored Brand campaigns to capture market share
A registered brand wants to launch video ads targeting competitors. The skill designs a custom Sponsored Brands campaign: selects the top 5 competitor ASINs with weak listings, suggests custom video themes, and outlines a high-converting keyword target list with aggressive bidding guidelines.
A private label brand has an ASIN selling at $29.99 with a gross margin of 40% ($12.00). Their current campaign has a target ACoS of 30% ($9.00 target CPA). A key keyword, "organic baby blanket," has a conversion rate of 10% and a current bid of $1.80, resulting in a 55% ACoS.
1. They open EasyClaw and activate Amazon PPC Manager.
2. They run: *"Optimize bid for 'organic baby blanket'. Price $29.99, conversion rate 10%, target ACoS 30%, current bid $1.80."*
3. The skill calculates:
- Target CPA: $29.99 * 30% = $9.00.
- Optimal Max CPC Bid: $9.00 * 10% (conversion rate) = $0.90.
4. The skill alerts: *You are currently overbidding by $0.90.* The $1.80 bid requires an 18% conversion rate to hit your target ACoS, which is unrealistic for this search term.
5. Recommendation: Immediately lower the keyword bid in Seller Central to $0.90. This preserves sales volume at a profitable CPA, lowering the overall campaign ACoS.
Total time to recalculate and optimize bidding efficiency: under 3 minutes.
Stops ad spend bleed. The most common PPC mistake is letting non-converting keywords run for weeks. This skill compiles negative lists to block wasted spend, saving hundreds of dollars in ad budget in your first week.
Removes bidding guesswork. Bidding is often done on instinct, leading to overbidding or underbidding. This skill uses exact conversion and margin formulas to calculate mathematically optimal bids that align with your profit goals.
Establishes scalable campaign architectures. Unstructured campaigns (mixing auto, broad, and exact in one ad group) make optimization impossible. The 3-campaign Auto-Research-Exact setup is the industry standard for clean, scalable, and easy-to-manage advertising.
Data-driven keyword scaling. Moving high-performing terms systematically from Auto to Research to Exact campaigns ensures you continuously scale your keyword coverage as your product gains reviews and authority.
Optimizes margins, not just sales. A campaign can drive high sales volume while generating net losses. By anchoring PPC metrics to your actual COGS and target margins, the skill ensures ad campaigns support business profit, not just top-line revenue.
- Do not make bid adjustments more than once a week. Amazon’s attribution system can take up to 72 hours to attribute sales to clicks (especially for Sponsored Brands). Adjusting bids daily based on incomplete attribution data will disrupt campaign performance.
- Use negative phrase match carefully. Negative phrase match is powerful but can accidentally block profitable long-tail keywords. Use Negative Exact Match for specific non-converting searches, and reserve negative phrase match for completely irrelevant terms (e.g., negating "cheap" if you are a luxury brand).
- Isolate single keywords in Exact campaigns. For your top 3 high-volume ranking keywords, create dedicated, single-keyword Exact campaigns with high budgets. This gives you complete control over bid adjustments and placement modifiers for your most important terms.
- Maintain Auto campaigns even after launch. Auto campaigns are Amazon's primary tool to discover new customer search trends. Never pause your Auto campaign; instead, lower its budget and continuously migrate high-performing terms to manual campaigns.
- Target competitor ASINs with Sponsored Display. Identify competitor listings with lower star ratings, higher prices, or poor listing copy. Target their ASINs directly using Sponsored Display ads, placing your superior product offer right under their Buy Box.
ACoS (Advertising Cost of Sale) measures ad profitability: ad spend divided by ad sales. TACOS (Total Advertising Cost of Sale) measures overall business marketing efficiency: ad spend divided by *total* sales (organic + ad). A healthy account aims for a target ACoS of 25–40% and a TACOS of 8–15%.
The formula is: `Bid = Price * Conversion Rate * Target ACoS`. For example, if a product is $20, has a 10% conversion rate, and your target ACoS is 30% — the optimal bid is `$20 * 0.10 * 0.30 = $0.60`. Bidding above $0.60 will exceed your target ACoS.
It is the standard Amazon advertising structure for a new ASIN: (1) Auto Campaign (for discovery), (2) Broad Match manual campaign with primary keywords + negative exact of exact keywords (for keyword research), (3) Exact Match manual campaign with primary keywords (for keyword ranking and maximum conversion).
For standard-priced products ($15–$40), we recommend negating a search term if it has received 10 to 15 clicks with zero sales. For higher-priced items with lower conversion rates, the threshold can be extended to 20 clicks.
Yes. The PPC Manager supports all Amazon marketplaces (US, CA, UK, EU, JP). The mathematical bidding formulas apply universally; please specify local currency and target ACoS parameters in your query.
Placement Modifiers allow you to increase your bids by up to 900% for specific ad placements: "Top of Search (First Page)" or "Product Pages." The skill can analyze your placement report and recommend modifiers — for example, if Top of Search has a 20% conversion rate vs. 5% on Product Pages, it will suggest applying a 50–100% modifier to Top of Search.
For active campaigns, download and mine search term reports every 14 days. This provides a sufficient window of data to detect high-converting terms and negatable wasted spend without overwhelming your campaign structure with daily adjustments.
"Down Only" means Amazon lowers your bid in real-time if a click is unlikely to convert (recommended for stable ACoS). "Up and Down" allows Amazon to increase your bid by up to 100% if a click is highly likely to convert (recommended for aggressive launch ranking). The skill advises which strategy to apply per campaign.
Yes. Video ads typically have higher CTR and conversion rates than standard text ads. The skill provides budget, keyword, and placement optimization guidelines specifically tailored to Sponsored Brands Video formats.
Your target ACoS should be lower than your product’s gross profit margin if you want profitable ad campaigns. If your gross margin is 40%, setting a target ACoS of 30% guarantees a 10% profit margin on advertising sales. For brand launches, sellers often set target ACoS equal to gross margin (break-even) to drive velocity.
